Sofwave®

Ultrasound Treatment for Early Skin Laxity

Sofwave® uses ultrasound to warm a precise layer of the skin and prompt it to rebuild collagen. It is for early looseness: the softening along the jaw, the brow that sits a lower than it used to, the beginning of laxity under the chin and across the neck.

How it works

The device delivers ultrasound through seven parallel transducers in a synchronised beam. The energy concentrates in the mid-dermis, roughly one and a half to two millimetres below the surface, which is where the collagen-producing layer sits. The skin surface is cooled at the same time, so the epidermis above the treated zone is spared.

The structural scaffold of the skin is mostly type I collagen woven through with elastin, and it sits well below anything a cream can reach. Warming it in a controlled way triggers a repair response, and the repair is the treatment. Each pass treats about 28% of the mid-dermal tissue volume in the area covered.

What to expect

Change is gradual, because what you are waiting on is collagen. Nothing looks different the next day. The biopsy evidence suggests remodelling continues over months rather than weeks, which matches what we see.

Whether it is right for you

Sofwave® starts with an assessment, because the real question is not whether we can do it. It is whether it is the right answer for what you have noticed. Laxity, volume loss and skin quality look similar in a mirror and respond to completely different things.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at info@thewelle.ca if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Sofwave uses ultrasound energy to heat a specific depth of the skin, which prompts a remodelling response over the following months. It is used for lifting and tightening rather than for adding volume or treating surface texture, so it tends to sit alongside other treatments in a plan rather than replacing them.

Not straight away. The change comes from your own tissue remodelling, so results build gradually over roughly three to six months. If you are being told to expect an immediate lift, that is not how the mechanism works.

Generally very little. Expect some warmth and redness for a few hours, and occasionally mild tenderness. Most people go back to their day afterwards, which is a large part of why the treatment is popular.

It does not, and it should not be sold as though it does. Energy-based tightening produces a real but modest change in skin quality and firmness; it does not reposition tissue the way surgery does. If what you want is a surgical result, the honest answer is a surgical consultation, and you will get that answer here.
